CLOISONNÉ

In all cultures, jewels have always been symbols of beauty and luxury. Jewelry evokes emotions, gives protection, boosts confidence, are passed down as heirlooms, and, ultimately, express our personal style and sophistication.

With gemstones collected along decades during her frequent trips around the world and the vintage pieces she discovers in antique dealers worldwide, Ana’s creative vein hand in hand with her business acumen designed the first line of her haute jewelry brand: A.Damous Jewelry.

Inspired by the ancient technique known by the French term cloisonné or partition, cloison (decorative work with colored enamel separated by gold or metal strips), Cloisonné, the inaugural collection of A.Damous Jewelry, in collaboration with Bove Jóias, is a refined assemblage of high-quality gemstones from the designer’s travels, handcrafted in Brazil by top-most artisans, combining originality, tradition and sophistication with exotic Brazilian woods with cloisonné Art Déco inlays from the 1930s.

This is just the beginning.

ART DÉCO AND CLOISONNÉ

“As I admired the jewelry collection with cloisonné designed by Ana Damous the Calouste Gulbenkian Collection of Lisbon came to my mind. Since its origin in the Byzantine empire to its introduction in China circa the year 1300, the cloisonné technique is a reference of delicate and refined objects and jewels.

The 20th century and Modernity are celebrated in the Lisbon museum by a spectacular set – one-of-a-kind in the world – of Art Nouveau jewels, many of them in cloisonné, signed by René Lalique (1860-1945), French jeweller, goldsmith and glass designer, and also one of the notable masters of the Art Déco style.

The jewels by Ana Damous help us reflect on the timelessness of Art by utilizing themes and techniques that are still up-to-date as ever even after their introduction in History centuries ago. “
